When I first went to HK, I found Cantonese has it unique vocabulary, grammar, and even
logic.
Do not know if "mo"
(does not have), "lian" (beautiful) are in standard Chinese dictionary. Mandarin
Chinese (or Shanghainese) would say "you first go (ni-sia-tso)", vs. Cantonese
"you go first (Ni-han-si)." My name sounds like "take care others" in
Madarin, Shanghainese, and Cantonese. However, only in HK, people ask me if that means I
will not take care myself. At least for me, a Shanghainese, the logic is different.
Confucius said "gi-so-bo-yui, bo-se-yu-yen (literally it means if you do not like it,
do not do to others)" Most Chinese would not immediately say then "do it to
yourself." Then why my name implies that kind of thoughts in Cantonese (or only in
HK?)?
