Since today is holiday, I enjoyed reading the
Lighters' site and Bobby's translations. Since this poem has been Chitted in the Chit Chat
section, I assume the work is open to some Chats. Bobby, please excuse the intrusion.
Not reading Tony's original Chinese version, I have the advantage of going all out in the
English part and the disadvantage of not knowing exactly what Tony trying to express in
the first place.
Well, here is my suggested version. Hope you guys like it, but please don't call me a
poet. I am just a romantics like your Lighters.
This swift and temporal present,
stirred up my reverie.
Remembering shouting into the wind on that high cliff with my long hair
fluffing,
remembering the glimmer of the early morning light from that soggy valley.
Yes, there were bright shining moments,
and dark shady regrets,
some sparkling highs,
and fathomless lows.
Soaring with the roaring surf,
gingerly skirting along the uneven paths.
There were cheers,
and sobs,
singing voices
and resigned sighs.
Those bygone days wove a colorful tapestry.
Our encounter was not by chance,
rekindled friendship is a certainty.
Past,
present,
their paths crossed like beams of light.
Yesterday
a proof of my existance.
Tomorrow,
the fountainhead of hope.
Embarking from a colorful yesterday,
charging into the glorious tomorrow.
