There has not been a " Car" article for a
while, mainly due to the intense e-mail activity from the Lighters with all kinds of
interesting stuff and I don't think a "Car" piece is needed to keep our
conversation going among ourselves. Tony needs his rest, and I prefer not to ask him to
upload anything.
In recent days there have been some math puzzles and IQ tests circulating among us. I want
to make sure that there is no need to worry about not being able to solve any given puzzle
in 10 minutes or in 10 hours. I am the first to admit that I am likely to be the dumbest
Lighter around. Why? Because I just know so. I am the last to get a joke and the
last to understand a movie plot. When an IQ test is used on me, I take ten times as
long to figure out the puzzle, if at all. It usually takes me many many hours of study
before I can understand anything. I am just dense, and yet in my heart I seem to
know I am good at something even though I am dense. Unfortunately I just don't know what
that something is.
Snakes do not have feet, they move pretty fast. Bats are blind, they navigate rather well.
What seems to be missing in one's sense, talent, intelligence and ability, God usually
gives something back to compensate for the deficiencies. An autistic person may be very
good in certain math ability, and yet this person may not know how to tie the shoe laces.
What then is this person's IQ? Close to zero in one aspect and yet certainly a
genius in another aspect. There is just no one test which can test one's general ability.
There is this actor by the name of James Wood. He always prides himself to have an IQ of
higher than 130 and went to MIT. He is a reasonably good actor, but he is not anther
Brando, or a Duvual for that matter. So what good is having an IQ of higher than 130?
Brando may be as dumb as I. He may even be dumber, just look at his way of abusing this
body and yet he is probably one of the most accomplished actor of our time. Just go see
" On the Water front" and " God father " again. What matters is just
to be good at your own thing.
My problem is that I am so dumb that I can't figure what I am good at.
