(1) 8 mm---this is good movie, but it made me sick.
(2)Analyze me---this is a so-so movie, but it made me laugh.
(3)Corruptor---before I discuss this movie, let me first tell you a short story I heard
while "drinking tea" with the San Diego Pui-Ching boys and girls. One of the
guys ( class of 1960) told us that while he was at Kansas University ( Lawrence, Kansas)
there was this class where the professor was from Taiwan, and all the students were also
from Taiwan, making the entire class from Taiwan except this was at an American
university. Now back to this movie called " Corruptor" where 99 % of all actors
were Chinese, the
99% of the scenes were shot in the NY China Town. In fact there were lots of Cantonese
spoken, and written Chinese signs all over the place. The main character played by Chow
yun-fat ( boy, has he grown chubby, true to his name) used a lot of HK gestures. This
movie was a 100 % HK B-movie, except it was made in the US. This is like the class at KU
all over again.
Chow will never be as good as Jackie Chan, because he wanted to be an American actor which
he is not. Chan does not want to be an American actor, he wants to a HK actor with a
special athletic ability. He is tremendously successful at his craft. I would want to see
this movie again. The pity was Mark Wahlberg, of Boogie Nights fame, was also in it---a
total waste of talent when paired with Chow.
