Where And When Is The Next Lighter Reunion

Peter Tong

At the reunion just passed, our classmates decided that the next lighter reunion would be in Hong Kong in November 2002. This came about because of a survey taken on the reunion harbour cruise and a vote taken at the reunion. I think it may be of some interest to our classmates to see a summary of the result of the survey.

Of the 91 classmates present, 65 responded. To the question of when, the answer is provided in Tables 1 and 2.

It is obvious from Table 2 that most of us prefer summer. However, when the location of choice turned out to be Hong Kong, the summer heat quickly changed a lot of minds. By voice vote, the consensus was switched to November. As to the year of the next reunion, 2002 and 2004 were a virtual tied in the balloting but the sentiment on the Reunion floor was overwhelmingly in favor of the earlier date.

Table 3 is the vote count on the location of the next reunion.

By city, Hong Kong was the obvious favorite and that was the site chosen on the floor during the Reunion. However, if we lump all the Eastern Hemisphere cities together and all the Western ones, we find 25 classmates for the East and 23 for the West. San Franciso appears to be a good runner-up city and perhaps, the site for the next-next reunion.

There were two more questions on the survey form. To the question 'Will You Attend the Next Reunion?', 50 of the 65 classmates responded 'Very Likely' and 15 responded 'Likely'. None said 'Unlikely'. This is certainly a most encouraging response to the organizer of the next event, a compliment to the organizers of the event in Toronto, and a tribute to our classmates' red-and-blue spirit.

The last question was 'Will you be willing to organize the Reunion?' There were actually 10 classmates who said 'yes'. Even though there are 54 'nos' and 1 'maybe', I must admit this showing is better than this writer expected and I hope all 10 classmates who said 'yes' live in Hong Kong.

See you in 2002 if not sooner.
