Fight Club---a rather interesting movie with an expected storyline. On the other hand, the
essence of the plot has been used many times in movies with different story lines; and
that is about wanting something so bad that one does not even know about it. In
"FC", it is about wanting to be free (not wanting freedom). It drove home
alright in this movie, but it did not have to be that violent.
Bone collector --- a remake of "rear window" jazzed with hi-tech. Denzel
Washington is not quite a Jimmy Steward yet at this stage of his career. He can play
almost all the characters that Steward played. Angelina Jolie (daughter of Jon Vaugh) is
quite a different matter. She is going to be as hot as Grace Kelly was, but they have
entirely different persona on screen. Oh, boy, she is something else. Need I say more.
Dogma---PC guys would really enjoy this movie which made fun of God, and in particular
Catholicism. We, educated by the Baptists, do not and should not feel offended, but we
know enough about the Bible to get the jokes and where they came from. It is a very
original movie. As in social small talks, one should not bring up religion, politics and
sex in the conversation. It is a controversial, but very funny movie. Most of us have
faith, but do not necessarily have faith in the church. The teachings of any church are no
more correct or infallible than any teaching based on good intentions. If one views the
movie in this light, one should not be offended at all even one is a Catholic.
