Went movie-seeing and partying with a group of Lighters in the Bay area,
and had a hell of a time.
Saw two movies with the lighters:
(1) Chang Jiang River---a big screen, 70mm movie in an imax theater. It started with the origin of the " Long River ",
traveled down the river
through various parts of China, the three gorges, and finally exited to the
sea near Shanghai. Tony Kwok knew much more about the technical details of
this type of movie making. He said there are only two such movie cameras in
the world. I was just amazed by the size of the screen and the resolution of the graphics using
apparently just one projector. The movie was just a little too short,
(2) Anna and the King---I have not read a single good review about this
movie before seeing it. In fact, one publication listed it as one of the 10 worst movies of 1999. I went with a bunch of Lighters and find it a
very enjoyable movie, but not necessarily a good movie ( as opposed to " The talented Mr. Ripley " which is a good movie, but necessarily an
enjoyable movie). Our group seemed to like it fine. I think Veg Worm would
enjoy it even more, since he understands what they said in Thai, perhaps, even what Chow Yun-fat said in Thai.
There was partying after that. CHANG Hwan-Chou ( D15) received a " colorful" gift. It was a seedless watermelon flavored lubricant. His famous
last word was " please demo how this is to be used".
And the Long River flows east, as time goes by...
