(1) The cup---a movie about a bunch of young Tibetan monks in exile in India. These boys were crazy about the World Cup and wanted to see the
final match on TV very badly. The script was inspired by a true story, so
the audience was led to believe. A fun film with a simple plot, this movie
goer did enjoy it more than he expected. With English subtitles and Tibetan spoken in the entire movie, it was clear that the boys did not like
the Chinese. Irrespective if Tibet was once part of China or is part of China now, there is some fairly strong sentiment not taken too kindly to
the guys from the Middle Kingdom.
(2) "What planet are you from?" ---Never mind the silly story, it was a fun movie, it was a Mike Nicholas movie after all. Linda Fiorentino was in
the movie for about 10 minutes. Well, when you see her you'll comprehend how a good actress can bring about the quintessence of " I am very good,
but I am much better when I am bad".
This movie goer read in the newspaper that Ava Gardner died alone in a London Apartment in 1990. None of her three former husband or " very close
friends" came to her funeral, although it was reported that Sinatra paid her medical expenses.
I can still see her in my mind, standing alone in the garden under the moonlight with a half smile on her face in " The barefoot goddess". I saw
this movie in my teens. This scene alone can cause a teenager's heart to pump faster and skip beats.
In the end, however, all is left is only an image in the mind of an aging person. And so it goes ...
