Hong Kong

Provided by SS Lau

This is an excerpt of a message about Hong Kong from my cousin, a businessman stationed in London and a Pui-Ching grad ( class of 1968). He goes back to southeast Asia qiute often for business and other acttivities. The message was sent shortly after his visit to HK during the holidays. I thought the message was interesting , and would like to share it with the Lighters :

HK was restless. This is a result of the Asian economic crisis, and the Bird Flu. The Bird Flu is quite an event. As you know, they slaughtered 1.2 million chickens. The government was under fierce attack on this matter. There is one silverlining, the freedom of press is alive and kicking.

Pui Ching is getting popular again. In Tung Chee Hwa's desire to promote Chinese schools, Pui Ching is heralded as a role model. It is receiving a lot of attention and hopefully also grants.

The HK economy is going through a signficant adjustment. The government appears determined to maintain the currency pegged to the US$, due to political rather than purely economical reason. If this is the case, the logical consquence will be slower growth and a fall of property values. If one wishes to buy properties in HK, the next 12-24 months will be an attractive period.
