On Pui-Ching matters

SS Lau

Dear Lighters,

This year our beloved PC school cert record was not too bad, but not too good either, with 2 8As and a 97% passing rate. DGS had three 10As, Queens had one 10As etc. In other words , we did not get cited in HK newspapers as prominently as some of the other schools with  better records.

In this connection, I remember Wong Sai -Wing had 10 As in the 1957 school cert exam ( he was the 1957 cheung Yuan) . His classmate Dan Tsui did not do as well. The rest is, of course, history.

While Dan Tsui has accomplished something no PC grads have ever done since time began, it is not clear to this Lighter if Wong Sai-wing or Dan Tsui is a happier person. The point is that school cert and exams in general have no directly observable correlation with happiness or accomplishment in one's life. Accomplishment and happiness are not ecessarily synonymous either.

HK is placing too much importance on exam results.

On an entirely different matter, our webmaster , Tony Kwok, will be going to Taiwan for a few weeks on web assignment. Tony is instrumental in bringing the Christian Gospel web on line. May his sojourn be a safe and successful one.

It is possible that he may still be able to manage our webpage while on assignment in Taiwan.
