Movie Talk

SSLau

" Almost Famous" is about a 15 year old high-school" journalist"  working for the " Rolling Stone" --- a rock magazine. The kid went on  a tour trip with a rock group in 1973 on assignment for the magazine.

After having seen the movie, I read an article in "Time" magazine on this movie, and learned that the story was based on the adolescence of the director---well, a San Diegan.

I must admit that while I have seen Rolling Stone around on  newsstands, I have not read one. However, I understand it is a big  time rock music magazine, originated in San Francisco. For a  high-school student to be on assignment for the Rolling Stone is a  big deal. But the story is much much more than the tour assignment,  and far beyond the music, which surprisingly was good even to an old guy like me. The performances from the absolutely no-name actors were just outstanding. Only one actress ( the mother) in the movie was well-known (to me).

No need for me to say more, except to say that "AF" is a very
enjoyable movie, and it is, kind of, bittersweet --- as in  chocolates, the very best taste.

"Unbreakable" is a total waste of time. Forget it.
"The 6th day" is better than "Unbreakable", hardly as good as " The exterminator" or " Total recall" of yesteryear.
