Hello Movie critic Lau,
Its been what, a month ? since you posted the very nostalgic "You must remember this ..." Casablanca article and NO ONE responsed !
Whats going on ? The Lighters are busy filing tax returns ? The tech stocks losses got to them ? Kids getting married ? Busy
babysitting grandkids ? or just plain old senile to the point that not even the well mixed sound track did nothing to their memory
cells. Did you provide all the various versions of that song ? Nice job.
However, as I got into the article, my expectation from reading your
report on the high brow PBS programs turned to slight disappointment on your shameless fondness of the corny Lewrance Welk show.
Actually I watched my share of that show, from its black and white days. But later, it was his false teeth and the overly sweetness of
his music started to trouble my maturing taste. Since I started
amateurishly analysing our psyche, may be it was only my subconscious jealousy at all those old men who got the pretty
singers and dancers to do the show with. Oh well, different xxxx
for different folks.
I have good excuse not to ooooh and aaaah sooner over this well versed reverie of an aging gentleman. Remember the news last
month on two dance students from Beijing Dance Academy got killed on the icy highway in eastern Washignton enroute to Portland ? Many
members of the Board of the Asian Performing Arts Theater of Seattle and its DBA Hengda Dance Academy that organized the multi-cities
tour are my friends. The legal and medical aftermath is a mess as
expected. Rumors and half truth are flying all over the web. The accident brought our the best and the worst in our Chinese
community. Some local patrons of Chinese culture such as yours truly are organizing a benefit performance to raise money to off set
some of the cost that insurance may never cover. It is complicated and messy work but somebody got to do it.
Well, the annual Oscar is coming up, I bet you must have your key board at the ready to share your thoughts with us.
Dennis
