To Know Him is To Love Him
Just about a week or so before SS's article 'As Time Goes By' appeared on our web site, I came across the song 'To Know Him is To Love Him". I've never heard that sung by the Lennin Sisters. In fact, I had heard that song just once on the radio in the forty years since I left Hong Kong. By luck, it turns out that my nephew Eric is a collector of songs of the fifties and sixties. Since Eric is only twenty-seven, Dennis would probably question his taste in music. But, why should his uncle care? All I know is that Eric has that song on CD and I can turn it into an MP3, which I did. Now, I can play it every time I turn on my PC. So, after reading SS's article, I sent him a copy of that song.
In my opinion, "To Know Him" is lovely song. Perhaps the lyric is not as poetic as that in "As Time Goes By"; the song cannot be all bad if I can remember the music, if not the words, after forty years, forty-two to be precise. The song is only two and half minutes long and the MP3 version is 2.5 MBytes. If any of you are interested in hearing the song, send me an email and I'll be more than happy to forward you a copy. I do not want to upload the song on to our web site. I'm afraid that placing the music on the site might infringe on some one's copyright. I hate to see Tony get sue by some record company.
A final note, 'To Know Him" is from the late fifties. "As Time Goes By" is from the twenties, if I am not mistaken. It was made famous by the movie "Casablanca" and Ingrid Bergman. A nice song is a nice song is a nice song. What has age got to do with it?
