View on the water front--2SS Lau There is a non-zero chance that the US may invade Iraq pretty soon, if the sex scandal in Washington does not get stoned-walled in the near future. I am struck by the amazing similarity between the story line in the movie " Wag the dog" and the real life situation centered around the White House. As mentioned in the movie, the US invaded Granada 48 hours after some 268 Marines got killed in Beruit (this is factual during the Reagan era). In the movie, the White House was in BIG trouble with a sex scandal, and the "dirty tricks" team staged a Hollywood-styled war, all done with computer graphics and stuff. Of course this diversion scheme kind of works every time. Poor Iraq has no other recourses, if they keep on antagonizing the US weapon inspection team, they are going to get bombed. If they back down, they lose face, and the Iraqi people are going to hate Sadam even more. The US, then claims victory either way, and diverts the attention away from scandal. The Americans think the president lead them to victory again, either with or without the bombing. All wrongs are forgiven and soon forgotten. If you were the White House "dirty tricks" team, would you not have done just that ? What can the Lighters do it a case like that ? Recall during the Desert Storm episode , the stock market dropped and then soared after it was over. It seems there is an opportunity here to capitalize on the sex scandal. Who says sex is bad ( in the sense of the sin committed, boy, this is Pui-Ching thinking) and scandal is damaging ? Not if you can make some dough. |
