After reading Pat Wong article, I feel compelled to join to wish Chiu Chung-Wo a Happy Birthday.
For reasons I do not know, I was invited and attended Chiu Chung-Wo and Tina's wedding, as I do not know either of them nor anybody at the wedding. It was an outdoor affair at a California winery on top of a hill. The scenery was great, the atmosphere was romantic, the bride was beautiful, and the groom was handsome. The only thing I remembered was that as in a typical wedding of Chinese Americans, everybody tapped the glass with forks signaling the newly wed to express their love. They did with such a passion, gusto, and continued long after everybody stopped, nobody tapped the glasses afterwards. There is no need.
At the Toronto reunion, Winnie found her ballet classmate is a long time friend of Tina. So we had dinner one evening then went to attend a ballet performance together. Neither a food connoisseur nor a ballet enthusiast (ballet music is very conducive for napping after a good meal), the only other thing I remembered was that when we were walking from the restaurant to the playhouse, they were holding hands, and walking so close together, I could not help to call them the "love birds." And as the old Chinese saying that I am "not envious of the angels in heaven, but the love birds on earth." If you think I am making this up, here is a photo while they were in my house a year ago.
I regret that I missed their birthday party. Otherwise, I will tap the glass for them to re-enact the scene at the wedding. For those were sick in Pat Wang's article, I wish them good health. We all should be happy we are enjoying another sunrise. Meanwhile at 2085, I am sure NADAQ will only go up (check with me when we shall meet at the 2002 reunion). With a brighter tomorrow, we should celebrate the days to come. More importantly, Pat Wong can stand up tall as I have seen in a photo on the website. I am so happy for Chiu Chung-Wo that he has such a lovely and caring wife. Let us all wish him many more happy birthdays to come. Happy Birthday, Chiu Chung-Wo!
