Chit Chat #2Bob Chen S.S. 's cousin's observation on Hong Kong is quite true. What a coincidence that William Somerset Maugham wrote in the late '30s from The Peninsula to Noel Coward about Hong Kong: Past imperfect, present tense, and future conditional. The quote is very timely today. I hope the currency crises from Thailand, South Korea, and Indonesia are over. Chinese in Hong Kong are more resourceful and, I hope, can weather the storm better. Although Wall Street reacts normal the last few times, there is no telling that Clinton's women (Jones, Lewinski, and who else?) problems might trigger something bad. I 'm glad that I don't play the market, and whatever outcome will not affect me much. I just hope other Lighters will be prudent enough not to put all eggs in one basket, and get hurt. P. S. Thanks to Chang Cheuk Lap (D14) for pointing out the correct spelling of Lantau. I found a map with the right spelling after dashing the translation off to S.S. and Tony. |
