The all important meal

James Koo

Apparently the talk of Walter Mok inspired a lot of people and lifted spirits of many, David Zai (D33), David Lin (D27) and his sister all showed up in HK. We were planning a "country walk" purportedly can be 7 hours long to show them the sights and taste of HK. For understandable reasons, all of them called to back out the last minute. So we started one of those trip only mad dogs, Englishmen and cabin fever infected Hong Kong residents will embark on. We walked and walked somewhere to the oceanfront. I can only tell that it is about $110 taxi ride from Sai Kung bus terminal as we took tax to come back so we will not miss the dinner with those out of towner. Since we do not talk about money, religion and politics, along the way, we reminisced about the good old days and the girls of Pui Ching. Here are the photos we took to show we were at the unknown (at least to me) oceanfront and had a good time.

Then any Chinese gathering is incomplete without the all-important meal together. We went to a club where they put a sign on the door of the reserved room saying "chairman Pang." The food is beyond excellent; David Lin said he never had half of them in S. Francisco. So if you do not look up W.T. Pang and have a meal ordered by him, you miss half of HK. At our age, even if we experience the whole HK, we only remember half of it. If you miss half of the HK to start with, you miss the whole HK.

Then at the dinner table, we started our car sky, car earth session how to make HK "super Silicon Valley." Heard money, power and sex are the three main driving forces of human behaviors. Since it is difficult for engineers to have money or power in HK, I suggested Walter give his inspirational talk
to high school girls here to encourage them to marry engineers. First more will want to be engineers, and then there will be more future engineers. Unfortunately most did not swallow this line along with "hwa-dio chicken," chicken cooked with rice wine from Shao Hing, a special dish ordered by chairman Pang. But we all had good food, good companionship, and a good time. What else is there to ask? Here are more photos to help us to remember the half of it. Guess will ask you to come to HK to enjoy the other half the happiness we have here.
