After reading the article by J Koo dated 07-01-02 in Lighter's web, it reminded me of those goodie-two-shoes but entirely unrealistic stories which I used to read when I was in PC high school from the Readers Digest. I didn't like the Readers Digest that much because it
portrayed one side of this world a wonderful place to live in and human beings were all full of love, charities, and courageous. Even then I knew it was a load of shit.
I don't want to argue with anyone at length about what the world really is and how should we live our lives. But let us put things in perspective.
In his article, Koo try to tell us with all his personal and financial setbacks, he felt this is still a wonderful life and the world is a beautiful place to live in. Good luck to him.
He mentioned about in order to appreciate the beauty of morning we must live through the night. Well, just try to tell this to thousands, if not millions of children dying of hunger in Africa, or millions who are dying of the
horrible cancer every day in this world. I am sure most of them when they go to bed they just wish they never wake up the next morning. Life is just too bloody painful to go on.
And listened to the lovely birds sing? If there were birds singing among the starving children, I am sure the only thing they would think about was how to kill those birds to ease their hunger. Bugger the singing.
Koo also told us we had to suffer through winter so we could
appreciate more the splendor of Spring. Try to tell this to the people who are dying of cold and hunger in war torn
Afghanistan. They are trying to survive by eating grass. They would be extremely lucky to live through winter. Bugger the Spring.
Not long ago, I was having a beer with my good mate Tom in the local pub. He said to me he was quite sure that Adam was not Chinese. Because If Adam was Chinese, he would eat the bloody snake instead of the apple.
There was a little bit of racism in the story, but sometime I sure hope Adam was Chinese, then we all still be living in paradise.
A classmate lent me a novel Of Human Bondage when in high school. I forgot the author. But in the end he wrote;
Life is short,
Nature is hostile, and
Men are ridiculous.
And that's REAL.
