"Tai Pin San Hai"
This episode... Class is over, the lesson is not.

I read CCLuk's article with great interest. He remembers Peter Tong's nick name very well ( class is over---tong sheung yuan). For us Lighters, we probably had 44 classes per week at PC ( 8 classes per day for 5.5 days per week). By 1959 our classes at PC were over for good. Our lessons, however, are never over.

In CC's article, he mentioned HK is a small place, well, not for me. There are plenty of places I have not been. Take eateries, I only know of a few new places to enjoy food, and most the oldies are long gone. " Ruby", which once served the best baked pork-chop rice, is gone. Cherikov, which was perhaps the only Russian restaurant, is gone. Long gone. Many new ones have come and also gone in the past 42 years.

About 8 months ago, I went to Cheung Wan-chou ( D15) 's home for dinner, actually quite an uninvited guest. At the Cheungs', I had some of the most wonderful peaches ( home-grown by Wang-Chou), and out of the world " pork and vegetable Won Ton" ( home made by Mrs. Cheung). They live in Freemont, a suburb in the Bay Area. At the time they had a couple as house guests. The husband looked very familiar, it turned out he was Wang-chou's childhood friend and a HK TV personality. No wonder, he looked familiar. His wife told me about " Wong Pao" and hundreds of eateries located at Wong-Pao.

Where is " Wong Pao" ? You may ask. Well, it is near Hung Hom. During PC days , we rarely went there, since there was almost nothing over there, except shipyards.

It turns out Wong-pao is now well developed. It has high rise apartments, a luxurious hotel (where China's president once stayed) and some very good eateries, including one " tan tan Min" place . This " TTM" eatery is famous because the customer is allowed to order only one bowl, and no more. It is also extremely busy. From
what I heard this "TTM" was once located in " Diamond Hill". If there is indeed the case, some of lighters may know the origin of this place. There are quite a few other eateries she mentioned, and too many for me to remember.

It seems that James Koo has been to this " TTM " place, if I remember correctly. I should think he ought to write a report on the" TTM " and other good stuff over at " Wong-Pao".

A lesson for me and others to learn where the NEW " Ruby"," Cherikov" and " Mei Lin" are these days.
