We are neither spaceman nor undergo weightlessness training. In high school physics weight means mass times gravity. Lately we have to change the last letter of mass from s to k. Mask is primary protection fro HK people against SARS.
Lighters in HK organized a country walk at High Island Reservoir on April 13, 2003 as a show of fitness when HK is overshadowed by SARS. Nine of us dropped off at Pak Tam Chung, Saigon District. The car park was filed up with cars and we had to park at the road side.
The urban area was relatively quite as most people stay at home. But on Sunday city folks flock to the country side. We put on marks at the beginning of the trip. Upon arriving at Tung Bar of the Reservoir, we took a deep breath of fresh air without the filter. Mask less.
A short trip to Long Ke Bay provided us an hour of outdoor exercise. Luk Chi-Chung took a dip on the seaside in this late Spring occasion. Fortunately there was no April Shower, probably Pat Boone was sound sleeping. We had a chat with a young couple camping at this quite beach.
During the break at Tung Bar, President Pang practised Chi-Kong. Virtually at this critical stage of SARS a healthy respiratory system is the best asset of all. Wong Yue-Kai stretched his legs to post a firm footing. An iron will can ward off the threat of coming down by the disease. Profess S Lau assuming a powerful walking machine took a brief rest ready for the 3 hours walk back to Pak Tam Chung. He was slightly disappointed as the opposite gender in our group could not resist the comfort of hired car.
Back to city and there are masks everywhere. We enjoyed a Yam Cha at Yau Yat Chuen Recreation Club. Naturally we could speak more effectively free of the mask. Thus concluded the half-day trio with a combo of driving and walking which is suitable to our age group. It also shows that we are fit and well when HK is battling with SARS. Perhaps this is a blessing to the Lighters as we are always young at heart.
A quote of Winston Churchill is a good message to the people of HK--We shall overcome. My word the recovered medical students at Prince of Wales Hospital did put on the V sign at the press conference.
Looking at the other side of the coin may SARS turn out to be something like:
Solidarity- Unity is strength
Appreciation- Those who are fit and well should not take it for granted
Reflection- The importance of sound in health and mind
Support- Clean environment and keep HK clean.
