MY RESPONSE TO PRESIDENT PANG's ARTICLE

Paul Wu

There are a few issues which I need to clear up about what our President
Pang said in his article. The most important thing is that Pang mentioned that he had telephone some Lighters in Australia saying "only due to some other reasons," that Lighters in Australia are not signed up at the moment. Inferring that they eventually will sign up later. In other words, he inferred that I was LYING in my article where I said that NONE Lighters in Australia will sign up because the "high cost" as the only reason.

Apart from myself, there are three "active" Lighters in Australia. I don't
know which Lighter Mr. Pang had contacted. I contacted Ho Chuck-Wai, Seto Ching, but I couldn't get on to Chin-Tung-Cheung because he has a new phone number.

I first telephone Seto, he said that he is not going because "it cost too
much." He indicated that the reunion would cost Lighter Downunder more than A$10,000 per person, allowing some extra costs like meal, land tour etc. He told me in no uncertain term that he is not going. The next person I telephone was Ho-chuck-wai. He more or less said the same thing. He also said that he definitely will not sign up.

While talking to Ho, I ask him about Chin-tung-cheung. He said Chin, Seto,
and himself,(all Sydneysiders) met in town Yum-Cha one day. Chin also told them he is not going to sign up.The rest Lighters in Australia, Poon-Tak Pui and Pang W. F. (this guy is only half an Aussie) we can confidently count them out.

Therefore, with a heavy heart, I wrote that article. I never said I wanted to CHANGE the REUNION PROGRAM now. The sole intention of my article is to bring to your attention that:

1. If every time the location of Reunion is determined by ballot vote,
Lighters Downder haven't got a bloody chance. We don't have the number. So, 3 times out of 4 the Reunions were held on the "other-end" of the world. Please have a look at the map where is Melbourne and where is London.

2. Reunion is getting a bit too expensive for the "average" Lighters  Dowunder. I certainly got that impression after I talk to Ho, and Seto.

3. We Lighters Downunder would like very much to join every Reunion
possible. But we missed out 3 out of 4 times. The reasons were "obvious".

I am doing all these because I am proud to be a Lighter and I, also other
here, love to take "every chance" to see other Lighters all over the world
during the Reunion. So far we only got 1 in 4 chances.

I wrote this in English because my PC can't do Chinese.
