The Event
"The Bay-to-Breakers" Run
in May 16, 2004 San Francisco

Dear Lighters,

From: Benjamin Chinbon

(Hi, S.F. Bay Area Lighters, )
It is not uncommon for you to drive your car from one end of San Francisco to the other end; however, it is uncommon for you to do the same by walking or running. Luckily, the opportunity is always there!
Just keep on reading ......

On behalf of the lighters (Tony, Walter, Chung-Wo, Pat and Danny) who were at the weekly "Pure Talk" session at Mountain View's Starbuck Coffee last Thursday, I am announcing that we are going to plan to participate the annual Bay-to-Breakers on May 16, 2004. There is no need to do the running, we will just join the 7.46 miles fun walk while Walter is running for his goal of under-one-hour finishing time. This should be a pleasureful, memorable and achievable activity for us all, including our family members too. Please come and join us!

For every now and then, we will provide you with additional information in preparing you for this event. You can start doing some walking regularly and it will also keep your body healthy, the most important thing at this time of our age.

Get set ...... ready .......go.---------Benjamin Chinbon

Please kindly forward the attached from Benjamin Chinbong to all our Lighter classmates. Ben is really serious about getting all of us who are residing in the San Francisco Bay area to participate in the 2004 Bay-To-Breaker footrace. He has been broadcasting this desire this summer whenever a classmates traveled through this area. By now, he has probably signed up several people from out of town to return to the S F Bay area next May to join us. With the heightened enthusiasm, it may be worthwhile to broadcast this exciting event to every Lighter and to extend an invitation to everyone to join us for a weekend of fun, focused on health and renewal of friendship. The 7.5 mile footrace, from the Bay Bridge to the ocean side ust past Golden Gate Bridge, will be held on May 16, 2004.

As you know, the Bay To Breaker is a world renowned and fun-filled family footrace. Thousands of people annually partake in the running and walking for a good charitable cause. The official event website http://www.baytobreakers.com/history/facts.html has some interesting backgrounds of this festivity.

Any inquiry and interest are welcomed. Please direct them to Ben chinbong@pacbell.net or myself chungwo_chiu@hotmail.com . There are already various suggestions that some other additional outdoor activities might be organized to make it into a longer-weekend, such as hiking, river floating etc. We shall share more information about the Bay-to-Breaker registration and other plans if you think that is worthwhile.

Thanks------Chung-Wo

Running 7.46 miles in less one hour is quite an accomplishment for anyone of our age and even much younger. Let us make this more interesting for Walter to meet his goal. I hereby propose that those who want to encourage Walter to donate $10 - $100 to the LIGHTERS FUND if Walter finishes his run in less than or equal to 60 minutes. Walter may just get inspired to do this using up his last drop of STRENGTH AND STAMINA, and the Lighters fund gets replenish for the webpage and other Lighter related activities. The account is kept by Shirley Lam Lee.

How about it , Walter and fellow lighters ? Anyone seconds this motion ? I pledge $50 to this cause, Walter , you want to pledge to bet on yourself?

Ben,I think Gina mentioned last time in the the Bay area that she is thinking of motivating the Canadian Lighters to come for this event, kindly include her on the message list. Didn't Peter Tong already sign up ? He is probably fit to run too.

An awesome hiker is Lawrence Wong in HK. Pang Woon-Tong swims every day early in the morning, except on Sunday , he plays table tennis. Quite a few in HK are very health conscious and ar capable hikers/walkers.

What is your estimated time to walk across SF? This can help the walkers to pace themselves . ---ss Lau

Dear S.F. Bay Area Lighters,

How have you been prepared for the Bay-to-Breakers in May 16, 2004? It is only about 6 months away!
Have you been doing your regular walking exercise? 1, 2, 3 ....7 miles?Good news, several out-of-town lighters will join us on this event too. Please let others know also.

Let's all make this one a fun and memorable event!
