Tsing Wah

Soo Sui-Wing (D38)

I don't know why Bill Kao is so interested in that Tsing Wah article.

I don't think there is anything wrong with not knowing some ancient Chinese writing. In fact, we should have gotten away from these stupid, useless “High Class Chinese writing” long time ago. Playing with some ancient words, it is a total waste of time, harmful to our efforts to a 21st century society of science, technology, commerce. There are lots of ancient nations with flowery literature, but their descendants to-day are living in abject poverty. This includes the Chinese.

As to to-dais's Tsing Wah, I do not have much high opinion of it. Of course, Chinese universities do produce some of the top people in this world, but my fault with them is the Chinese people always like to deify these top universities, may be this is a national trait of a frog sitting inside a well. A trait of the Confucius culture of bullshiting. ( Remember Hong Kong U when we were in high school?)

Several years ago, I read in a Hong Kong newspaper about a job fair in Canton. One Hong Kong company specifically stated " No Tsing Wah or Peking U grads need apply". When interviewed, the recruiter said " These so-called top U grads, they think they are too good to stay at one company and work hard. They think they are just too good to do anything. If there is a broom lying on the factor floor, workers may trip on it, and cause an accident. These Tsing Wah guys will just step over it. It is beneath them to pick it up, while other lesser U grads will pick it up and possibly avoid an accident”.

I always think the younger generation Chinese are different from us. These young ones are more akin to Indians, Arabs in self-centering and pursue of self advancement with no regard for other people, not to mention the society. Sure, there are old fashioned Chinese like us, but they are pretty rare. What a sad state we are in.
