PC Name |
I had read some arguments from our schoolmates on how to deal with the wrongful name use of the Pui Ching Middle School by the people in Quangzhou. There was a survey, which I did not receive and I don’t think is even worth the time. My criticism to such a survey is that if one really wants to do something, just go ahead and physically do something, not to shuffle some papers and wait for the next step. There will not be any action. There was also the talk of possibility of losing the legal battle in China as Chinese laws depend more on whom you know. Same thing can be said about U.S. laws. But there are other ways, like “People Power”. I am really puzzled by the inaction of our graduates, who can count “2” Nobel Prize winners, numerous top-level business executives, academics, political leaders, etc. and most important, many decent and productive members of the society. To appropriate the PC name for personal gains is beyond my comprehension. It is like stealing from your father or mother. Of course people do that all the time, but not us. If we produced people like that, they betray the PC education. I am sure the intention was good at the beginning to set up the Pui Ching Business School in Guangzhou. Only that it was hijacked for private gain by the Guangzhou people and our Hong Kong school supervisors are just too inexperienced to resist these crafty business people. I am sure we would not have any objection if the business school were not too blatantly grabbing. We have two great assets that differentiate us from the other Hong Kong schools: our Red-Blue school spirit and our good citizen graduates. We may not be politically powerful in China but we as group we are united and can easily commit us with financial support in our fight. Lots of us are successful entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley. Let us continue our advertisement campaign in Hong Kong explaining our fight over the improper use of our school name for private gains. Explain to Hong Kong that our name only cover the three schools in Hong Kong only. This will go on over TV, radio, newspaper, etc. for as long as it takes. It will cause money, but we will pay for it. To circumvent legal hurdles, we can form a corporation outside of Hong Kong to handle this campaign. After this constant bombardment over the media, I doubt Guangzhou people will be eager to attend the business school in Quangzhou when they realize this is a profit-oriented, larceny-at-heart school. The problem will go away only when the business school in Guangzhou can not realizes profits from this name appropriation. The people in Guangzhou have money to fight also but they do not have our sustainable group resources and our combined world wise knowledge. We will win. Of course the name Pui Ching belongs to the Baptist church. There are lots of Pharisees in the Hong Kong temple. If necessary, we can as a group communicates directly with the world church in Oklahoma. We have the weight to do it, given our large presence in North America. The Pui Ching Education is a money losing business. The fruit hoped for is to produce some useful graduates in the Christian mold. To make money by appropriating a successful school’s name is against the original founding idea of Pui Ching and the Oklahoma church will surely say something. |
