Just read S.S.'s write-up on Fight Share's reunion. How true it is that none of us will have a second 40th reunion. Here's the new Chitchat: S,S. saw a video of Fight Share (class of '57)'s 40th reunion in the bay-area. I remembered one of their classmates vividly. He was Chen Chuan Cheng (nick-named Great voiced man, Tai-son-kung). He died in a car accident in 1978 on Highway 1 below the old Getty's museum. The reasons I know him well are as follows: (1) He caught the no. 7 bus on Nathan Road one stop after me. (2) We came to America on the same boat ( President Wilson) in June '59. (3) He was hit by a motor-cycle in
Kyoto, and we got a red carpet treatment from the rider's elder brother for the whole day. (4) We went to Illinois and the same AAE (Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering) department from '60 to 63. (5) His wife Lorraine (nee Wu) was a schoolmate of Desmond Wang (C3)'s sister (D1). (6) Desmond Wang and family came to L. A. for a wedding on 4/18/98, and he treated me to dinner two nights ago. (7) Two weeks ago I got a phone call from Chu Hung (F zz) in Singapore. He'll be retiring from Namyang Technological University in June '98, and moving to Vancouver. Chu Hung was tutoring Desmond's younger brother and sister in Hong Kong for a while (may be in the 60's or early 70's). (8)
Chu Hung got my home phone number from one of the lighters in the bay-area. Although we won't have a second 40th reunion, the present for all lighters are quite above average in all respects. Some of us are not close to retirement, but those are in the minority. This world is definitely a small world, if I can list all the above reasons at a blink of my eyes. I like to hear from other lighters about their
accounts of friends from Fight Share and/or any Share.
