Dragon lady and dragon girl
C21

Dragon lady is a term originally refers to mystical, domineering and powerful women in East Asia, now applies much more universally. The Empress Dowager CiXi, Madam Ngo (former first lady of South Vietnam), and perhaps, Madam Chiang Kai-shek all fit the description of a Dragon Lady.

What or who are Dragon Girls? In this case I refer specifically to " The girl with a dragon tattoo", the heroine of a trilogy of crime/mystery novel, originally written in Swedish, now an international sensation. Movies have been made, also in Swedish with English subtitles.

When " Tattoo " first came out, I paid no attention to the book with such a sleazy title, until I read an article about the late author, Stieg Larsson. His story is so interesting that prompted me to read "Tattoo ". I have since read the first book (English translation) and saw the first 2 movies (Girl with a Dragon tattoo, and The girl who plays with fire, both in Swedish with E-subtitle, don’t know anything about the third book yet). All three books are currently available in English, but only two movies are available in this town. DVD of the third is available at Amazon for $75 USD. I'll wait. The Hollywood version of "Tattoo" is in the preparation stage.

So what is the story all about? The darkest and dirtiest matters: corruption, decadence, dirty corners of huge corporations, sex trade, murders, back stabbing, intrigue and moodiness, all there, all happened in the apparently clean Sweden. What is so different from the rest of film noir world? Well, the hero is not a licensed-to-kill agent 007 type tough guy.

The heroine is a 4’11’’ punk looking smallish girl, the Dragon Girl; she is an internationally ranked computer hacker, a very small community. Her favorite computer is an Apple laptop. There is no escape from her if you so ever slightly touched a computer.

Of course, you must like these dark things; at least like reading about dark things, to go read the stories. Since I read and watched this series, it says something about me, and about millions of people around the globe. You just might like the stories too.
