Sapphire Wedding Anniversary Celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Ip Kwok Ping

Captain Ip (Ip, Kwok Ping, F8) and Mrs. Ip Ling Mee Chan (Ada) celebrated their 45th (sapphire) wedding anniversary last Saturday (July 16, 2011) at Jockey Club in Causeway Bay. This is particularly momentous as he had a close brush with death exactly a year ago while on a cruise around the British Isles. He had to be lifted by a helicopter to an intensive care unit of a hospital in France, was in coma for weeks, and miraculously recovered without any noticeable aftereffects, including his famous talent of quaffing down beers with gusto.
The event, MC'ed by his two charming and vivacious (and very professional) daughters, was filled with Family, Love and Thanks to God. The atmosphere was exuberant, but orderly. The party was well orchestrated with meticulous planning and attention to details shown throughout. The ambiance and decor were superb, even the party favor was of fine taste and consistent with the overall theme and color scheme.
About 20 of the Lighters and their spouses showed up among the 180 or so total guests. Class President WT Pang (B18) represented Lighters gave a congratulatory talk and also presented a well written scroll (text pasted below). Our well known calligrapher, Tse, Shun-Kai (C10) presented the couple a large (4' X 2'?) panel of his calligraphy with poems from Tang dynasty. Lighter also gave a figuring of a couple to them. The rest of us toasted with the couple as if they were the newly weds for the health of all and asked them to invite us back for their 50th, 60th and beyond.
Welcoming our fourth grandson in US (Weston Koo was born on June 22, 7 lbs 11 Ozs. Both mother and baby are doing well), I used this event as the impetus for returning early while leaving Winnie behind, and showed up as an unexpected guest. Listening to Capt. Yip's rencounter, I silently counted the blessings and memorialized the missing ones among us. Anyway, lifting my glass, I toast all of us for our good health, and many years of good life to come.

憶在母校同窗之歲月，兄叱咤體壇，鋒芒畢露。尤跨欄一項，冠領香江。饋何光榮於母校，奠成功於修身。離母校深造奮鬥，致事業有成。年高引退，享福從心，日盡數瓶，愜意稱心；或棄坊間庸廚，親自烹製。飲龢食德，至愛節度，樂也融融。
去年兄遊旅途中，遭逢惡疾，險涉絕境。幸搶救及時，終化險為夷，平安歸家。實嫂夫人臨危不亂，急速應變之功也。亦有賴往昔勤運動之厚底。時適逢結髮之周年日，感人生之有涯，悟榮樂止乎其身，念朋情之可貴，慨嘆可數之餘暉。遂值今歲之同日，廣宴親朋，冀聚友好於一堂，獻美食於饕腹，盡百杯之痛飲，確難常之光景也。致盛况於開懷，達心銘於感恩。吾社友聞風而齊集，沾享喜樂之萬一，共渡歡聚之時也。
