Feedback for Pat Wong’s article about Abrahamic Religions

馬時敏 (C25)

This article, One God for all Abrahamic Religions by Pat was very well written. The only additional point I like to offer is that not only are all Abrahamic religions rooted from the same God, the Arabic people and the Jewish people both accept the notion that they trace their lineage to the same male ancestor, Abraham, and one generation later, a pair of brothers, Ishmael by Hanah (handmaiden of Sarah) for the Arabic people and Isaac by Sarah for the Jewish people.

The other point may be more of a shock to many devoted Christians, i.e., the monotheistic notion of Jehovah (the Jewish people call Yawei) was not conceived or at least openly advocated by the Jewish people until long after they have left Egypt. It was a practical reality that the Jewish people were living as a small minority in the much larger polytheistic community of Egypt, Greek and later Roman. Jewish studies scholars have cited many literal evidence in the Old Testament scripture to prove this point. Jehovah (or Yawei) was their god in the community the Jewish people lived in, and they deferred to the other gods, Zeus, Apollo, etc. as the gods of others. It was not until the Jews were forced to disperse after the destruction of the Kingdom of Judah by the Roman Empire, the notion of a single God with power over the entire world and all people was conceived, or at least, openly advocated.
